Application and Selection Process

  • Students, parents, and guardians fill out a comprehensive application that includes the student's academic record, the family’s financial information, and recommendations from their school and community.
  • Each application is reviewed and ranked using a Student Application Scoring Matrix.
  • Interviews are held with the top ranked students and their families to confirm their fit for the program.
  • 50 eighth-grade students from across Montgomery County are selected for each cohort class.
  • Student Applications will be accepted beginning September 15, 2017 and must be postmarked no later than November 15, 2017 for consideration.

Student and Parent Commitment

The selected students sign a contract that pledges they will be alcohol, tobacco and drug free; be crime free; practice good citizenship; maintain a strong record of school attendance; achieve the required grade point average; participate in school or community based activities; and attend weekly meetings with their mentors.

The parents or guardians sign a contract that pledges they will provide a supportive home environment; develop a positive relationship with the College Promise mentor and staff; and attend open house/parent teacher conferences at their child’s school.
