Celebrating Success Dinner
Montgomery County Ohio College Promise held its ninth annual Celebrating Success Dinner on August 5, 2019. More than 350 individuals attended the event, which honored recent graduates and established expectations for the ninth cohort of College Promise scholars who began the program in August.
At the dinner, College Promise also recognized the fifth cohort of College Promise scholars, who recently began their college careers. New university partners also were announced, with the addition of Ohio Northern, Wittenberg, and Xavier Universities joining the College Promise family. These universities, along with Sinclair Community College, Central State University, Denison University, Kettering College, Miami University, Miami University Regionals, University of Dayton and Wright State University, provide excellent opportunities for students as they graduate from high school and pursue their postsecondary goals.
Two College Promise graduates from Stebbins High School, sisters Minh Ho, a recent University of Dayton graduate, and Ngan Ho, a recent Wright State University graduate, shared their experiences with the program. Their exemplary academic careers were a fitting example of the qualities that are expected from College Promise scholars.
The evening was a wonderful celebration of the program and all of the individuals who have helped to make the College Program successful. With the addition of 52 incoming freshman, who attend 15 different area high schools, the program now has impacted 446 students since 2010. This new group puts College Promise well on its way to meeting its 10-year goal of sending 500 Montgomery County students to college with little to no cost to them or their families.
