MCOCP 15th Cohort Selection

College Promise Scholar McKenzie Carter at graduation.
Montgomery County Ohio College Promise recently completed the selection process for the next cohort of College Promise Scholars. We are proud to announce that we selected 58 deserving students from throughout the county to take part in the program. These students will be freshman next year, and each student will be paired with a caring adult mentor, who they will meet with on a weekly basis throughout high school.
Our application process began this past September and closed in November. This year, we received applications from 215 students that met our income guidelines. These 8th graders are currently attending public, private, and charter schools throughout the county. In terms of our selection process, this was one of the most competitive groups ever. In January, we interviewed 85 students, and afterward we made some difficult decisions to ultimately select our top 58 candidates.
These new College Promise Scholars will be attending at least 20 different high schools next year, depending upon where they enroll. We look forward to matching each unique student with a mentor, who will guide them over the next four years, with the goal of each student earning a bachelor’s degree at little to no cost to their family.
We are currently recruiting volunteer mentors, who can apply on our website: https://mcocp.org/mentoring/. After submitting an application, mentors will receive a free background check and complete an online training, which takes about an hour to complete. We will hold a luncheon this summer to welcome new mentors and discuss next steps.
Thank you for supporting College Promise—we could not do this without you!
