Senior To-Do

Dayton Ohio ScholarshipSenior year is here for some of you!  It’s hard to believe that you have been with your student for three years already and that graduation is on the horizon.  With that said, there is a lot to do to prepare for the year ahead.

Jenni Guanciale, our Program Coordinator, will visit every high school this fall to talk to seniors. Make sure you work with her to coordinate this meeting with your student.  At that meeting, she will remind your student to complete the FAFSA (which is available October 1) and to consider applying to our college and university partners.

As you may recall from our College Night, we have 11 college and university partners.  The traditional path is that students can start at Sinclair Community College or the Miami University Regionals and transfer to one of our four-year partners, which include Central State University, Miami University, and Wright State University.

Our other partners (Denison University, Kettering College, Ohio Northern University, University of Dayton, Wittenberg University, and Xavier University) competitively select students, with the process beginning the fall of senior year.

We have now shared information on our seniors (grades, attendance, test scores), and those colleges and universities will begin their process to identify candidates.  Note that each school has its own process, and we are not involved in the final decision making; however, we will do our best to relay information to you and your student.  Think of this as another step in college decision-making, where the student needs to express interest and meet all of the deadlines, the university will make their selections, then the student can decide to accept or decline the offer (deadline is typically March 1 for our purposes).

Please let us know if you have any questions during this exciting (and potentially stressful) time!
