Student Spotlight: Hunter Sheafer

Hunter Sheafer at graduation

Hunter Sheafer is a Montgomery County Ohio College Promise Scholar. Hunter graduated from Vandalia-Butler High School in 2021. He then graduated from Ohio University in 2025 with a BM in Music Education.

Hunter thrived during his undergraduate experience. He was a member of The Ohio University “Marching 110” for all four years. Thanks to that opportunity, he was able to perform in five NFL stadiums and travel across five states and two countries. In addition, he made many lifelong friendships during college and through band specifically.

College Promise allowed Hunter to put his full effort into his “classes, band, clubs, friendships, and enjoy the small moments without having to worry about how to make it happen financially.” He did not need to work during the school year and was able to graduate debt free! He believes that without this program, his dream of becoming a teacher would not have been possible.

Hunter recently began his first year of teaching at Hardin-Houston Local School District. His long-term plans include teaching instrumental music in Ohio public schools and getting involved with the Ohio Music Education Association, with a vision to provide children with an amazing high quality music education.

We congratulate Hunter on an amazing start to a bright future!
