The State of College Promise

Dear Friends,

Patrick Gill and Jenni GuancialePlease find a quick update on Montgomery County Ohio College Promise. College Promise continues to provide economically disadvantaged students an opportunity to attend and graduate college at little-to-no cost to their families. More specifically, this past year we:

  • Celebrated 29 students earning a degree, bringing our total college graduates to 203.
  • Selected 57 students, the most scholars to date, who are currently attending 23 different high schools throughout the county.
  • Welcomed 57 highly qualified mentors, comprised of working professionals and retirees, to guide and support our new scholars.
  • Received the Stellar Partner Award from Bottom Line Ohio and saw students transition to their Success Program.
  • Received a renewal grant from the Scarlet Feather Fund, helping underrepresented students from West-Dayton access college opportunities.
  • Continued meeting students where they are by holding social gatherings at schools for scholars and mentors.
  • Expanded our college partner network to now 17 accredited regional colleges and universities.
  • Developed a LinkedIn page to share and connect with professionals and organizations.
  • Received new and recurring gifts from 62 individual donors, including 100% giving from our Board of Trustees.

Applications are open for our 16th cohort of College Promise Scholars, which we will select in February. We again seek community members to volunteer as new or returning mentors for the next academic year: https://mcocp.org/mentoring/#become-mentor.

We are able to continue our mission thanks to the many stakeholders in the community. Hopefully you received a mailer highlighting the impact of our work and more details about how to support our efforts. Additional information about our Annual Campaign will be shared in the coming weeks.

Thank you for helping us transform the lives of young people in our community!
